The Scottish Airshow will go-ahead as planned in two weeks’ time and will not be affected by the Shoreham tragedy, a director of the event has confirmed.
Recovery operations are continuing after a Hawker Hunter jet crashed on to a road during the Shoreham Airshow on Saturday, killing at least 11 people.
Doug Maclean, from The Airshow Scotland Ltd, said this week the event at Ayr and Prestwick would not be affected.
He said all the flying was done over water in a “very safe” environment.
The Scottish Airshow will take place over the weekend of 5 and 6 September.
The flying event on Saturday will take place over the sea, off Low Green at Ayr.
An exhibition of aircraft will be held the following day at Prestwick Airport.
There have been calls in the aftermath of the Shoreham crash for air shows to be cancelled on safety grounds.Mr Maclean told the BBC that the Scottish Airshow was “very safe” and took place in a “controlled environment”.
Meanwhile Ayr United have moved their scheduled home clash with Stenhousemuir forward as a huge volume of traffic is expected on the roads for the Airshow.
The game had been scheduled for Saturday, September 5 but with bumper-to-bumper traffic expected on the A77 new plans have now been made.
The League One clash will now take place at Somerset Park on Tuesday, September 1.
United Operations Manager Tracy McTrusty said: “We decided to switch the match mainly because of the traffic. “I heard last year there were more than 100,000 people attending the Airshow over the two days so it makes sense to switch the game.”
