A 57-year-old Girvan man has been killed after his motorcycle crashed into a Transit van in the town.

William McCutcheon was riding his Suzuki motorcycle in Coalpots Road, when the fatal collision happened on Sunday morning.

Emergency services battled to save Mr McCutcheon at the scene, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and died.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old driver of the Transit van who was uninjured, was left badly shaken in the aftermath of the tragic incident, police confirmed.

A spokesman said: “Around 10.30am on Sunday morning, the 57 year-old was driving his Smotorcycle on Coalpots Road, when it was involved in a crash with a Ford Transit van being driven by a 23-year-old man.

“Emergency services attended but the 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. He can now be named as William McCutcheon of Park Road in Girvan. Relatives are aware.” Accident investigation officers are trying to piece together the events leading up to the accident, and have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101.
