A BRUTE has been locked up for an assault outside a Troon pub.

Nathan Campbell, 20, was locked up for two years for knocking out a man outside Cheeky Charlie’s.

The lout smashed Barry Muir in the face with his elbow following an exchange of words, causing to hit his head on a wall, knocking him unconscious and knocking out a tooth on April 25 this year.

When Muir then regained consciousness Campbell then beat him with a wooden pole on the body, injuring him.

The incident was captured by a CCTV operator and Campbell was then identified by police and arrested.

Campbell had been on a night out with work pals and was drunk at the time of the assault.

When questioned by police, Campbell admitted: “I hit him with my elbow, I’ll admit that.” Campbell’s solicitor, Mr McCulloch said: “He was shamed and disappointed with himself.” Sentencing, Sheriff John Montgomery said: “You pled guilty to assaulting Barry Muir to his severe injury. That is against a background of previous convictions. In my view the only sentence is to impose a custodial sentence” The thug was sentenced to 24 months in a young offenders institution, backdated to April 27.
