A VILE thug has jailed for a racially motivated assault in Ayr.

Daryl Fitzsimmons appeared in custody at Ayr Sheriff Court last week following the disgusting attack during the summer.

The court heard how 25-year-old Fitzsimmons committed the offence after binging on a large quantity of diazepam.

Fitzsimmons and two others approached Ghanshyam Kharel and his daughter at around 9pm on July 21 on Smith Street and the despicable lout hurled a torrent of racist abuse at them.

He yelled at them “This is Scotland you Paki b******” and continued “You Paki b******” before punching Mr Kharel on the face, knocking him to the ground.

The whole incident was captured on CCTV and Fitzsimmons was arrested and questioned by cops.

During the questioning the thug said: “I only said it because I felt threatened. I’m not a racist.” Solicitor John Gallagher, defending, said: “Mr Fitzsimmons had consumed two boxed of diazepam. That is not to excuse his behaviour in any shape or form.

“He is ashamed of his behaviour and fully accepts his behaviour is entirely inappropriate.” Fitzsimmons, of Burns Statue Square, Ayr committed the offences whilst on bail.

Sheriff John Montgomery sentenced Fitzsimmons to seven months in jail.
