A WOMAN had to be cut from her vehicle and sustained injury to her neck after she was involved in a crash on St Leonard’s Road.

Two cars collided at the junction of Maybole Road and Belmont Road in Ayr at 5pm on Saturday, February 6 involving one other male driver. The man managed to escape from his vehicle shaken, but physically unhurt.

The woman, trapped in her car, was complaining of back and neck pain. Hydraulic cutting equipment had to be used to remove the car door to gain access and remove her.

Fire and Rescue station manager Derek Davidson, said: “Maybole Road is a fairly straight stretch which encourages drivers to build up a reasonable amount of speed however there are a number of areas of risk including junctions, business entrances and exits and a railway crossing.

“Eye witnesses at the scene advised that one of the vehicles involved actually became airborne as a result of the collision before it landed on its wheels within the grounds of Halfords yard so from that perspective the result could have been so much worse.

“I would urge drivers to slow down and take heed of any hazards within the area they are driving in and keep themselves and other road users safe.”

The woman was subsequently taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital for treatment following the collision.
