FLIX Fun Bar in Girvan will open later this weekend as the Girvan Folk Festival comes to town.

The proposal was confirmed by the South Ayrshire Council licensing board last Thursday, April 21 who previously allowed the bar to open until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday and 1am on Sunday during the festival.

But this year Flix will open from 10am until 3.30am this Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 and again from 10am until 3am on Sunday, May 1, as the bar usually opens from noon until 2.30am Monday Saturday and until 2am on Sundays.

The festival is an annual event and one which has not caused organisers previous concerns with regard to licensing.

Although it is not an official host ‘venue’ they simply want to extend their hours as this local event is expected to attract a large number of visitors.

Music out with the festival will also be available to listen to.

Cllr Ian Douglas said: “If it is for musical entertainment then I do not have a problem with this.”
Cllr Alan Dorans added: “There is a lot of involvement in this event. I imagine people will want to listen to something else in the evenings.”

Cllr Mary Kilpatrick concluded: “I have no problem with this.”

Flix Fun Bar also requested to extend its opening hours until 3.30am during the Troon Open from Monday, July 11 until Saturday, July 16. Both were granted by the licensing panel.
