A MAN was led to safety as firefighters battled to contain a fire at residential property in Ayr.

It happened just before 7.30pm on Wednesday, April 20, when three appliances were deployed to the terraced property in Peggieshill Road following an emergency 999 call.

Crew members wearing breathing apparatus worked inside the roof-space using four high-pressure jets to tackle the flames as they spread through the block of houses.

The call had been received at 7.25pm with the first firefighters on the scene four minutes later with the rapid response crucial in preventing disaster as the outbreak threatened to destroy adjoining property.

Their priority was to deal with flames in the roof of the house, while others were positioned on either side of the blaze to quell the fire as it took hold above neighbouring properties.

With 15 firefighters on the scene at the height of the incident, one resident was led by crew members from one of the homes as a precautionary measure to ensure his safety.

Relief crews were mobilised to relieve the initial responders, as cutting away operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and negate the threat of it spreading.

Thermal imaging camera equipment was then used to confirm there was no hidden fire spread within the building’s structure, before the crews were stood down at 12:20am next day.

There were no injuries or rescue procedures carried out, while only the one person was evacuated.
