A PRESTWICK woman has won a competition with flying colours which has earned her a room makeover.

Susie Chamberlain took part in a national competition run by paint company Dulux – the firm famous for its shaggy dog adverts – called Name The Colour.

And she came up with an appropriate title which impressed the judges and made it to the final nine from more than 5,000 entries.

Now she is happy as a dog with two tails after her entry, called The Mariner, was voted the winner by an online landslide.

She said: “I stumbled on the competition by accident when I was on a website – ironically looking at other people’s houses which had been given makeovers.

“The colour was a mix of green and blue and it reminded me of the sea, so I came up with the name and entered the competition – but never gave it another thought.

“It was great news to hear that I had got through to be a finalist and then finding out I had won more than £2,000 of furniture accessories and decorating worth £500.

“There is also a design service provided by Dulux, which brings the total value to more than £3,000 which must be spent on one room.

“We have decided to refurbish what we call the family room which hasn’t changed since we moved in to the house nine years ago. When the children were younger there was a couch in it and a TV.

“But a revamp is overdue which will give us a lot more space.”

In conjunction with home design specialists Houzz, Susie will have the room upgraded to whatever style and layout she wishes.

There is also an online shopping list available for her to choose from.

Then the items are delivered and the transformation will begin.

As the redecoration is being carried out by a Dulux-approved painter, she is confident that the results will be to her liking.

And it’s all because she sailed to the very top of the pile with her Mariner title for the blue-green paint colour.
