AN ANGRY resident of Knoweholm in Doonfoot, is concerned that his blue and green bins have not been collected for three weeks.

Collection day for this area is a Thursday but the last time bins were emptied on the cul-de-sac was on Thursday, April 14 and they are now overflowing with rubbish.

Since that date brown bins have been collected once but not until 8.45pm.

Peter Ryan told the Ayr Advertiser series: "The council are claiming bin collections are running as normal with only a day or so delay due to the 24-hour strikes by refuge staff; clearly this is not the case.

"We thought at first they were just one or two days late but now realise this is not the case. The 24 hour strike should not cause this. I do not see what they are trying to achieve.

"The thing is I do not want my bins collected at 9:45 pm. We live in a cul-de-sac where kids used to play in the street after school when the weather was good. It will cause disturbance.

"At the moment the street is full of bins waiting for collection so no kids are out playing. If they do go outside parents will be nervous bins lorries will come along the street and not see them.

"If bin lorries drive during the day it will be empty as children will be at school. It will be easier as well as there will be no cars about as local people are out at work.

"It means kids will go out and play less, exercise less and in the long run the council will have to spend more money on fitness progress instead.

"I can see the sense in this scenario for Ayr Town Centre but not for a small residential cul-de-sac."

South Ayrshire Council have previously said they will work to make sure bins are emptied on strike days.
