SP Energy Network have agreed to fund part of the Troon Gala to apologise for damaging the trees along the cycle path near Fullarton.

After South Ayrshire Council announced their budget in March the future of the galas as been under fire with Loans cancelling theirs. But Troon are determined not to be defeated by the cuts.

Speaking to members of the community council at their latest meeting Chairwoman Helen Duff explained: "We [the community council] have a budget of £800 a year.

"That money goes towards stationary, the Easter egg hunt, Wintertainment, finding our gala princess and queen and the Civic Awards. It costs £1700 to run the gala including VAT."

Negotiations will take place to discuss how how much the company will contribute.

A spokesperson from SP Energy Network, said: "We have offered to give money as a gift of good will. We will put it in writing as we are committed to doing something for the local community."

Helen later added: "I am glad we are still going ahead. Lots of people in the local community had signed up to help us cover the costs which I am really grateful of but now SP Energy have agreed to fund part of it."

The Gala takes place on July 23 and the Farmer's Market have agreed to supply 30 stalls at 10am on the day. There will also be a fairground and Ivy Cottage will provide hospitality for the Gala queen and princess.
