TROON drivers where even more shocked at the severe delays on the A77 last weekend.

Some locals were aware Sandyford Toll and Dutchhouse Roundabouts were closed from Friday, June 3 until Sunday, June 5 but lack of signage in Troon and Prestwick made the situation even more chaotic causing 11 mile tailbacks.

On Sunday, June 5 drivers moved at two miles per hour. Road works on Prestwick’s Main Street also increased delays.

Cllr Nan McFarlane said: “There was no signage on the Troon or Prestwick side warning locals about the road closure. Drivers were approaching these roundabouts only to turn round and come back again.

“One woman had a three month old baby in her cat and was stuck on traffic for one and a half hours.”

This section of the A77 had been closed while maintenance works between Whiteside Over-bridge and Adamton were carried out.
