US Presidential hopeful Donald Trump will visit South Ayrshire this week when he officially opens his £200 million Turnberry resort.

Mr Trump is expected to be at Turnberry on Friday, June 24 the day after the EU referendum.

Speaking about his investment, Mr Trump, said: "Very exciting that one of the great resorts of the world, Turnberry, will be opening after a massive £200 million investment.

"I own it and I am very proud of it. I look forward to attending the official opening of this great development."

Trump Turnberry, a Luxury Collection Resort, reopened its doors to guests on June 1, after a multimillion pound, eight-month restoration.

Coupled with the incredible renovation of Turnberry’s legendary Ailsa Championship golf course, the resort is one of the most opulent luxury retreats in the world.

But not everyone is impressed with Mr Trump's planned visit after he made comments to ban Muslims from entering the US, with protests planned for his arrival at Turnberry.

A facebook group 'Demonstrate Scotland against Trump' has been set up ahead of his visit.

It states: "There will be protest actions and demonstrations to coincide with his visit. The aim of this page is to bring together the broadest possible mobilisation against Trump reflecting the range of issues his possible presidency will bring to the fore."

Many have shown their support with over 100 people expected to turn out in protest at the refurbished hotel which consists of the upgrade of 103 guest rooms, including four suites.

Mr Trump will begin visit the UK on June 22 before moving onto Ireland.
