VISITOR'S at Culzean Castle and Country park will be able to check out a new natural history collection created by a man New Cumnock.

Thomas Wilson has been collecting various artifacts since he was about nine years old which are now on display at a special near the castle.

Speaking about his new venture, Thomas said: "I have always been interested in artwork and wildlife and have a broad collection of tracks, trails and signs.

"I started this collection when I was about nine or 10 and used to watch wildlife at primary school which is now part of the national trust at Culzean who have really supported my project.

"I feel the project is unique, featuring plaster casts, skulls and drawings which fits in well with what the national trust rangers do and those who are interested in wildlife should come along and get involved.

"The museum appeals to children but at the moment the collection would suit field watchers. I have previously given talks about exhibitions in Cumnock."

Thomas is originally from Auchinleck and has been a members of the Ayrshire Open Studios since inception.

He has also attended the Royal Drawing School at Dumfries House, set up by The Prince of Wales where artists go and draw.

His new collection includes a feature on Dick Roxburgh, by our sister paper the Cumnock Chronicle, who set up the South West Scotland Study Raptor Group.

Thomas concluded: "I hope this will help enhance visitor experience."
