A COUPLE who started a drunken brawl at Martha Dickies bar on Ayr's Smith Street have been given six months to get their act together.

Mark Forsyth and Yvonne Muir of Hayhill, Ayr appeared before Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Muir pleaded guilty to to assaulting a member of staff by grabbing her by the hair and dragging her to the ground as well as behaving in a threatening manner, by shouting and swearing likely to cause fear or alarm on April 23 this year.

Her partner Forsyth admitted assaulting a man by kneeing him to the head and body as well as behaving in an abusive way also likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm by shouting and swearing.

Depute Fiscal Lynda Carnochan, said: "At 3 O'Clock in the afternoon Mr Forsyth and Ms Muir were at the locus drinking alcohol. Just after four witnesses attended the locus and stood at the bar to get a drink.

"At the same same the accused Forsyth was informed by bar staff that he was no longer being served because he was too dunk. He started shouting and swearing.

"At this time accused Muir attended the bar and was told she would not be served. She too started shouting and swearing. Bar men were told to contact the police as they were acting aggressive.

"Muir then turned to the staff member and shouted 'who the f**k are you'? She grabbed her by her hair to the floor. A member of the public observed this and the accused Forsyth kneed the witness to the face while he was bending over.

"Bar staff managed to get them out of the locus and the pair were released on undertaking. The member of staff was taken to A and E in Ayr suffering tissue damage to the scull.

"The witnesses retained a scratch to the lower lip."

Speaking on their behalf defence solicitor John Gallagher said: "Neither of them have any previous convictions and there is nothing else outstanding. They live law abiding lives.

"Ms Muir found the whole experience quite unsettling and views her experience as one she would never want to repeat again.

"On that day they have been on a pub crawl from the early afternoon and drink had been consumed over the course of the day. It is a small pub near the train station.

"Throughout the afternoon there was an individual who kept walking into him. After a number of times Mr Muir told him to watch where he was going.

"He responded 'do you think you are a big hard man? Lets take this outside.' They were asked to leave the premises. Ms Muir left the pub first. They both accept they let themselves down that day."

Sheriff MacTaggart responded: "A lot of what I hear in these courts is down to alcohol."

Sentence has been deferred.
