DRIVERS have been warned to expect delays as major roadworks are carried out on the A77.

Part of the busy Ayr to Girvan section of the road will be affected at separate locations and times between Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, August 2.

This will impact on traffic using the A77 between Auchendrane and north of Kirkoswald and involves two projects to put right defective road surfaces.

A convoy system will be in place at Auchendrane as the repairs start, between 8am and 4pm on Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26.

Later in the week, similar restrictions will affect the A77 Kirkoswald North Gateway as road resurfacing and high friction surfacing work takes place.

The convoy control will be operating between 8am and 4pm on Thursday, July 28 and Friday, July 29 — and again on Monday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 2.

These upgrades, which will cost £86,000 are essential to ensure that the road, which carries much commercial traffic, remains fit for purpose.

Andy Fraser, of operating company Scotland TranServ, said: “It is important that we carry out these essential maintenance works to ensure the longevity of the road surface, which will benefit local communities and road users for years to come.

“To ensure minimal disruption, the work has been programmed to be carried out over the shortest period of time possible — however, I would urge road users to plan ahead and to leave plenty of time for their journeys.”

Advanced warning signs will also be in place on the approach to the works to inform road users that roadworks are taking place.
