A MAN and his faithful four legged friend have been doing a 7000 mile round trip around Britain litter picking and visited in Ayr and Dunure recently.

Wayne Dixon and his dog Koda are walking and litter picking the British coast in a bid to raise awareness of the litter problem as well money for Mind, the mental health charity in memory of his dad who suffered Bi-polar.

Speaking about his journey so far Wayne said: "This is something I have wanted to do for 20 years or so but since my father died I wanted to do it for charity.

"It has also left me in a better position to do it. I have always wanted to walk the coast of Britain but the views can be spoilt by the litter.

"Hopefully this will keep people talking and make them aware of the problem. Litter has been a massive problem for a long long time. The response for Ayr was fantastic.

"Lots of people were coming up to me to see what I am doing and I think because I have Koda with me they become even more curious. Lots of people have been putting me up, giving me money for charity and food.

"I have been made to feel really welcome. Lots of people are concerned about litter and are glad someone is doing something about it. In Ayr I was collecting two to five bags of rubbish a day along the beach."

Wayne also delivered a talk at Maidens Primary School about rubbish, encouraging the pupils to take responsibility and tidy up after themselves.

He continued: "I have met so many people along the way and I am still in touch with them through social media, as well as my family and friends back home.

"I think if everyone could pick up just one piece of plastic then we would not have the problems we do with littering."

Wayne who is from Blackburn has already raised £1700 for Mind and the Northern Inuit Society.
