A MAN has died after he was involved in a fatal road crash on the A759 near Dundonald on Saturday evening.
The 32-year-old was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra at 5.40pm, between Dundonald and Gatehead, when the vehicle appeared to lose control and crash into a wall.
Two other men were in the car at the time and sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
The 32-year-old driver of the car was also taken to Crosshouse Hospital but died shortly after arriving there. The passengers - a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man remain in hospital.
The road was closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators to examine the site.
It is understood passengers on the number ten bus to Troon arrived in the area about five minutes after the accident took place. Local people joined forces to assist the fire crews, police and ambulance services who attended the scene of the incident.
One of the passengers posted on social media: "My thoughts are with the injured passengers from the car. Another thank you to our number 10 bus driver who used the road detour and made sure that all of his passengers got home."
Another posted: "Thoughts go to the families and friends of all involved, rip to the young man who lost his life, hope the other two young men make a full and speedy recovery."
Road policing officers are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the A759 road, near Dundonald, who may have any information or who may have seen the vehicle prior to the incident to contact them at Irvine Police Office via the non emergency number on 101.
