AN AYR woman is gearing up to host a charity horse showdown in aid of Bloodwise formally known as Leukaemia and Lymphonia research.

Trisha Fearn's mum, Susan Harper, was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2008 and went through various treatments at Ayr Hospital and at the Beatson, including a bone marrow transplant, and is now in remission.

Trisha is holding another special fundraiser 'The Riverside Charity Show' at Rozelle Park, Ayr this Sunday in aid of Bloodwise.

The day kicks off at 9am with horse and pony showjumping. Dog showing classes start at 2.30pm with prizes for the best six legs and dog with the waggiest tail. There will be stalls, fun rides and much more on the day.

Speaking about Sunday's event Trisha said: "I had my first show in 2009 and I have been doing it roughly every year since. We have already raised £20,000 since our first show in 2009.

"I won't know until next Monday how much we have made this year. We have a lot of supporters who have been really helpful.

"I have got family who help me run it and friends who are really supportive too. Local people in the community even come and help out and it gets people to the event.

"We have a dog section and dog show for the best legs. I don't really show dogs all that often. People come from all over the country to get involved including Dumfries, Edinburgh and even Inverness.

"We are all from Ayr. My mum has been in Ayr all her life and we both attended Wellington School. Mum is known in the horse riding community and has run various horse shows too. But it is a lot of pressure."

Trisha's event takes place at Rozelle Park, in the field opposite where the Flower Show takes place this Sunday, July 17.
