EXPLORER scouts from Ayr, Dundonald, Hollybush and Prestwick are heading to the 35th Blair Atholl Jamborette, held in the grounds of Blair Castle, on Monday July, 18.

They will be joining 490 Scottish Scouts and around 500 overseas Scouts from Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Northern Ireland, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, and the United States of America.

The South Ayrshire youngsters have had three weekend training camps this year to prepare them for the 11 night camp where they have a wide and varied selection of activities to take part in.

The two patrols will be hosting two overseas patrols, unfortunately we don’t know from where at this time, and at the end of the camp, they will bring a guest back home with them to experience Scottish hospitality for up to five days.

Activities range from the adventurous one such as climbing, mountain biking and water activities at nearby Loch Tummel, basic activities such as Bushcraft, Ready Steady Cook and working with the Estate Rangers doing some conservation work around the estate, Creative activities such as moving making, preparing a programme for the Camps on radio station and a cultural zone, a variety of sports activities and some visits including Blair Castle and Pitlochry. And of course there will be the international Camp Fires.

Also on site will be around 500 Scout Leaders from around the world including some from Kyle and Carrick.

Their experiences at the Jamborette can be followed on the Camps website www.jamborette.org.uk which will be updated daily with a selection of pictures and copies of the Camp Newspaper.
