A THUG who attacked a man in Troon, cutting the right hand side of his face, causing him to have surgery has been fined £800.

Michael Jamieson, pleaded guilty to assaulting the man by punching him on the head on September 20, last year.

The court heard how the complainer and his friends were enjoying a night out at Peebles nightclub in Troon, when it was still open.

Depute Fiscal Mhairi Mair said: "Around 8.30pm the complainer and some friends were at the home address consuming alcohol before making their way into the town centre in Troon.

"All parties ended up at Peebles night club. The complainer heard confrontation outside the premises. He made an attempt to stop it. He was the punched to the right hand side of his face and immediately became aware that he was bleeding.

"He was crouched on the ground. The other men continued to argue around about him which was caught on CCTV."

The court heard that the ambulance service and police were contacted.

Ms Mair continued: "When paramedics arrived, there was no doubt that the complainer was bleeding about and inch below his right eye. He was taken to Ayr hospital and had to have surgery in September and nine stitches on his eye."

Speaking on his behalf defence solicitor Ian Gillies said: "Mr Jamieson is 23-years-old and a single man in full time employment. He is a first offender and really is extremely remorseful for getting himself involved in this matter.

"It may explain why he has never behaved like this in the past. Mr Jamieson accepts he punched the complainer. He accepts this is a serious matter and the court will view it as such.

"I do not think he will be back in this court for such likely behaviour."

Sheriff Carole Cunninghame addressed the dock: "You will have to pay compensation to the complainer as a result of your actions."

Jamieson has been ordered to pay £500 compensation to his victim as well as a £300 fine by September, 6.
