Cheryl Grant does not do anything half-hearted which is why she insisted on shaving her head completely in aid of charity.

The 32-year-old former pupil of Greenmill Primary and Cumnock Academy has raised around £300 for Macmillan Cancer Care by having the lot chopped off.

She has worked for more than a year at Bonmarché fashion in Ayr, which is where the public ceremonial cutting of the hair took place.

Cheryl said: “Some of the staff who were on holiday even came in to watch the shave take place and my colleagues and management at the store, as well as the customers, were great. I would also like to give a big thanks to Tracy-Anne from the Bella Mani salon in Ayr who came along in her own time to do the shave.

“I wanted my head to be totally shaved — if you are going to do something, you can’t have any half-measures, so I wanted all my hair taken off. It is actually quite comfortable and I have got quite used to it. In fact I am considering wearing my hair short all the time.”

While there has been cancer in her partner’s family, that was not the only reason for Cheryl’s decision to lose her crowning glory.

She added: “It is to help everyone who is affected by cancer, which is why I chose Macmillan.”
