A MAN who damaged a series of cars in Dailly has been told he 'acted in disregard for what he was doing'.

Ross Robertson, of Hazelwood Avenue, Dailly admitted wilfully destroying three of the vehicles on Greenhead Street and three others on Dailly's Main Street on June 24, 2016.

The 21-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how Roberts had been drinking in a hotel on the night he vandalised the cars.

Depute Fiscal Stephen McLean said: "At 11pm there was a fall out and he left the hotel. Witnesses were outside the hotel as the accused left and observed him walking away from them in an angry manner.

"They watched the accused damage the motor vehicle by kicking it and damaging the wing mirror. They tried to tell him to calm down but Robertson punched the complainer to the head.

"As a form of self defence he retaliated and punched him to the face. The accused fell to the ground. He kicked a window causing it to smash.

"He kicked and punched cars including a silver Audi A3, a blue Mondeo, a Mini Cooper, a Vauxhall Astra and a Jeep. Police officers attended and was taken to Ayr police office."

Speaking on his behalf defence solicitor Glenn Davis said: "He has a past with depression in which he has sought medical help. The information about his mental health has been verified. He has a positive work ethic."

Sheriff Leslie addressed the dock: "This seems to be a one night crime wave. They have suffered a considerable loss by the damage. It shows to me that you showed disregard for what you were doing."

Robertson will complete 18 months of CPO and 200 hours of unpaid work within six months. He is under curfew for three months from 7pm until 7am.
