FOLLOWING the terrible accident which saw five teenagers injured at a fairground last weekend there have been calls to ban Funtime Carnivals from returning to Ayr.

The incident took place around 9.30pm on Saturday, September 3 and the youngsters had to be taken to hospital as a result with one teenager sustaining a head injury.

Now a small group of campaigners are calling for South Ayrshire Council and the Racecourse to ban Irvin Stringfellow from trading in Ayr.

A Facebook page was set up to engage the public in the cause states: "For years we have professional Shows at Ayr run by the Codona and Hornes Families. We would like these traditions to continue.

"However since Irvin Stringfellow was allowed to bring his shows to Ayr Racecourse its been a completely different story.

"There are ancient rides unchecked for safety, shows that get smaller and smaller each year instead of a thriving event becoming bigger and better each year.

"This page will campaign between now and July 2017 to lodge with Ayr Racecourse and Licensing at SAC in a bid to stop Irvin Stringfellow operating at Ayr in 2017."

But not everyone agrees with the campaign to ban the fairground from returning to Ayr Racecourse next year, despite campaigners being adamant the shows will not return in 2017.

One social media user said: "This page is completely embarrassing. You obviously don't know what your talking about. These shows will be back next year and you can't stop them"

Chris Shand commented: "I've had a bigger but on my hand.

Ally Dahill added: "I've had worse than this from a fall when drunk man up."

Investigations are currently being carried out by police to confirm who will be held responsible for the accident.
