FIVE pets from across Scotland will battle it out to be crowned Scotland’s Top Pet Model, after the last finalist spot was secured by a resilient cat from Ayr.

Ziggy, stood out from hundreds of other pets from across Scotland to win the September round of the competition. He will now go on to the final alongside four other pets, to see who will be crowned the overall winner.

The one-year-old domestic short-haired was nominated for being a brave fighter, after recovering from a serious road traffic accident which left one of his legs badly injured.

The competition, which is being run by Vets4Pets’ 24 Scottish practices, will see the overall winner become the face of a Vets4Pets marketing campaign, as well as winning £150 Pets at Home vouchers.

Ziggy’s owner, Julie Harvey, said: “It was the team at Vets4Pets Ayr who first thought to enter Ziggy into the Scotland’s Top Pet Model competition because of how bravely he recovered from his ordeal.

“In June Ziggy was unfortunately hit by a car at the end of our road. Luckily he survived the accident, but the skin on one of his back legs was taken clean off.

“It took a while for Ziggy to fully recover, as he had to go back to the vets every three days for ten weeks to have his leg redressed and checked.

“During this time we became very close with everyone at Vets4Pets Ayr and I think they are a truly wonderful team. Ziggy is now finally back to his old self and I can’t thank Vets4Pets Ayr enough for how they helped him recover.”

Kirstin Craig, owner and veterinary surgeon, at Vets4Pets Ayr said: “After his accident, Ziggy became one of our most regular clients and we got to know him and his owner Julie very well throughout his recovery.

“We thought Ziggy would be perfect for the Scotland’s Top Pet Model competition because he is such a lovely cat and he was so brave during his constant treatment.

“Ziggy is very popular in our practice and we are so proud that he has won this month’s round of the competition, now we just hope he can go all the way and win the whole thing.”

“When I found out that Ziggy had been crowned September’s winner of the competition I was so proud and overwhelmed,” added Julie.

“We recently lost our other cat Lola, which was devastating because my cats mean everything to me, and now more than ever do I think Ziggy deserves a bit of the spotlight.

“I hope that Ziggy goes all the way to be crowned Scotland’s Top Pet Model as it would lift our spirits and would be great for not just me and Ziggy, but for the whole team at Vets4Pets Ayr too.”
