LAMPPOST signs in Troon have been causing outrage at the latest community council meeting.

Signs (pictured) as well as The Open Championship notices have had Troon community councillor Dawn Barr in such an outrage she has began removing the signs herself.

She presented her findings to local South Ayrshire councillors - Phil Saxton, Peter Convery and Nan MacFarlane at the recent meeting demanding for the signs to be removed.

She said: "Posters from 2014 have been found up on the lampposts.

"We really need to get the signage on the lampposts sorted. When will the Open Championship posters be taken down? It has been three months since the tournament.

"This is an eye sore and a disgrace."

The Ayr Advertiser Series/Troon Times took the case to South Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Roads Alliance for a response.

Mike Newall, South Ayrshire Council’s Head of Neighbourhood Services said: “Double-sided lamppost banners promoting South Ayrshire as the home of The 145th Open, the Scottish International Airshow, and Burns-related events were authorised to be on public display in Troon and Prestwick.

“These were scheduled to remain in place until the end of September, and work is now underway to remove them.”

Stewart Turner, Head of Roads at the Ayrshire Roads Alliance said: “We share the frustration of the local community when signs and banners are attached to lampposts, or other street fixtures and are then not removed.

“Where possible, we remove these, but we are unable to remove signs and banners on private ground.”

“Our preference would be that advertisers do not attach signs to street furniture in the first place, as removal is time consuming and our priorities, particularly with winter approaching, are the safety of our roads and paths.”
