GIRVAN primary pupils are working on a new picture project to discover how their school has changed over the years.

In August 1966, Doune Burn Primary and Girvan Primary were merged to become one school, the Girvan Primary everyone knows today.

The school are appealing to the community for school photos taken between August 1966 and the present day at any of the school sites in the town.

They would like to use these to form a display which can be visited during our Food and Farming Day on Thursday, October 20.

Although the building dates from 1955 when it was opened as the new Girvan Academy at a cost of £250,000, it is in fact of an art-deco 1930s design, the building of which was interrupted by the war years.

In time, the building became too small for the growing Academy and in 1990/91 was renovated and adapted for use as the Primary and Nursery Schools.

These schools, while remaining separate and having separate staffs and organisations, amicably share the same building.

Until 1992 Girvan Primary School occupied the former Doune P.S. building at the south end of the town which is now demolished and the former High School building in Henrietta Street now situated in the Carrick Buildings.

Organisers of this project would be grateful for any contribution and photos which can be contributed to the display.
