PURPLE people were spotted all over Ayrshire on Friday, October 7 as individuals, groups and businesses hosted purple events for Go Purple. 

The event is a major fundraiser for the Ayrshire Hospice and part of this year’s Hospice Care Week (October 3-9).

Hospice mascot Agent H, attended lots of different events across Ayrshire including a visit to school children at Muirhead Nursery and Primary, Troon, Forehill Primary in Ayr and Loudoun Academy in Galston. 

Businesses across Ayrshire also donned their purple accessories including at The Co-operative Food in Dreghorn, Microtech Digital, The McKinstry Company, Arthur J Gallagher and Swinton Insurance to name but a few. 
North, East and South Ayrshire Council’s had lots of purple festivities arranged including numerous whole schools going purple for the day.

Purple bucket collections were held across Ayrshire including Asda in Ayr and also in Ayr Town Centre leading into Hospice Care Week. Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce kindly held a purple “Canapes, cupcakes and cocktails” event with Buzzworks in Elliots, Prestwick to bring Ayrshire Business Week to a fitting close. 

Ron Swanson, Assistant Fundraising Manager at the Ayrshire Hospice said: “Huge thanks go to the people of Ayrshire who once again pulled out all the purple stops on Friday in aid of the hospice. We are so grateful for your support, creativity and energy. "

Mandy Yule, Chief Executive of the Ayrshire Hospice added: “Many people think that hospices must be places full of doom and gloom, when quite often it’s the contrary. 

“Yes, there are many profound and sad moments and we are privileged and proud to be able to offer outstanding care and support to patients and families who are going through those difficult times. But there are also moments full of joy and caring. 

“Our vital work is filled with moments that make people smile during a time that’s difficult for everyone and I’d like to thank everyone who got involved in Go Purple on Friday, raising a smile and helping to fund that vital work”.
