THE BOY who tragically fell to his death from a tree in Troon’s Fullarton Woods has been named as Lachlan MacKenzie.

On Thursday, October 20 police confirmed that the 12-year-old tragically died at the scene, despite emergency services attending, on Isle Pin Road, Troon.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 3.20pm on Thursday, October 20, a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a tree in Fullarton Park Woods, Isle of Pin Road, Troon.

“Emergency services attended, however the young boy died at the scene. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Mike Newall, South Ayrshire Council’s Head of Neighbourhood Services:

“We’re aware of this tragic incident, which occurred on our land, and our thoughts and sympathies are with Lachlan’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.”

It is understood that the boy, who was from Muir of Fowlis in Aberdeenshire, was visiting his grandparents when the accident happened.

Alford Academy head teacher Moira Milne paid tribute to the first year pupil.

She said: “We are deeply saddened by this news. Lachlan had settled into his first year at Alford Academy very well and this will come as a huge shock to the school and wider community.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Many have expressed their condolences to the family and friends of Lachlan via social media describing the situation as a ‘tragedy’ as well as ‘heartbreaking’.

They are struggling to come to terms with the fact that something so tragic could happen to a youngster doing ‘one of the most normal childhood activities’.
