A MAN had to be given oxygen therapy treatment following a kitchen fire at Ayr's Stonecrop Place.

The incident took place just after 7.15am last Wednesday, November 16 after a pot was left unattended within the house.

Despite the occupier removing the appliance, the incident resulted in one man and one woman being being taken to Ayr Hospital as a result of smoke inhalation.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said: "This is another example of distraction being the cause of a kitchen fire.

"It is all too easy for someone to put a pot on the cooker and either forget about it or their attention being taken away by another task or even by leaving the room for a matter of seconds.

"Fire will take hold very quickly given the opportunity therefore I would urge all householders to give full concentration to the task in hand, remain in the room where the cooking is taking place until such times as the food has been served and cooking appliances are switched off and in a safe state."
