A COMMUNITY fundraiser for the Prestwick Christmas lights switch-on has gave one councillor “overwhelming pride".

The fantastic event that happened on Thursday night in Elliots had more than 50 people in attendance all enjoying fantastic food from one of Prestwick’s finest restaurants.

All in attendance also participated in a raffle and auction with all proceedings going to Prestwick Christmas lights switch-on event.
Barbara Dillett’s amazing handmade quilt of Burns’ Tam O’Shanter (pictured) fetched up to £250 for the event.

Local councillor Hugh Hunter said: “The whole night has just filled me with overwhelming pride. It is so heartwarming to see Prestwick come together for the light up event.

“The light up event here in Prestwick doesn’t have the X Factor, it has the wow-factor.

“The night in Elliots plus our traditional Christmas switch-on is just a fantastic family event. I am just so proud.”

It was revealed that the fundraising night in Elliots raised £2,700 for the Christmas lights switch-on. The town had already been given £5000 towards the event from South Ayrshire Council as well as £2000 from Virgin Media who will also have a presence at the event in the form of stalls.
