A MEMORIAL bench to remember a teenager who sadly took his own life could be on its way after generous donations from strangers.

Dan Maw was just 19 when he passed away three years ago and his family are determined to have a bench in Rozelle Park in his honour and set up a Just Giving page.

Thanks to the generosity of friends, family and anonymous sources the £1,000 target has been reached in just a few days.

Posting on the Just Giving page, his mum Lynda said: “I am absolutely stunned to discover we have reached our target after just four days.

“Thank you with all my heart to everyone who has been so kind to donate, you are truly wonderful. This bench will mean so much to us and hopefully his friends who can sit a while and remember Dan so fondly.

“Your generosity has been overwhelming and thank you just doesn’t seem enough. You’ve made a mum very, very happy and emotional (in a good way!).

“I will keep everyone updated with the progress of getting the bench ordered and put in its location. Thank you so much.”
There is already a bench in place at Rozelle but as it is has a basic structure there is no back rest.

Lynda had previously posted: “We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us raise money in Dan’s name for suicide charities in the last three years and never wanted to have to ask for help with something personal like this.”
