A CLOSE on Ayr's Fenwickland Avenue was purposely set on fire police officers have claimed.

At 6.30am on Sunday, January 8 emergency services were called to the incident. Police are continuing inquiries and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Robert Docherty from Ayr Police Office said:

“Luckily no one was injured as a result of this fire within the close, however we are treating the fire as willful and are appealing to anyone with information that may assist our investigation.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious, or saw someone acting suspicious in the Fenwickland Avenue area around 0630 hours on Sunday morning, then please contact Ayr Police Office through 101.
