THE PUBLIC toilets in Barassie have been flattened as work begins on a new shore-front restaurant and cafe.

The planning application was submitted to South Ayrshire Council 18 months ago by proprietors Mr and Mrs Birks, who also own the Kirkmichael Arms.

However, work started last week to demolish the existing public toilets before construction of a new restaurant and cafe begins on the site.

Alec from Brocklebank the Builder was at the site as the toilets were demolished.

He said: “We are contracted to destroying the toilets and making the ground safe for the building of a restaurant and cafe.

“We are in the final stages right now and ready to build”.

Ayr Advertiser:

Dorothy Birks, who owns the land, told the Ayr Advertiser Series she is looking forward to the new development in Barassie.

She said: “We got the permission 18 months ago but it is something we have been doing now for three years.

“The toilets are flattened and we are now ready to put it out to tender.

“We are very much looking forward to getting building underway. It is a very unique spot.”

The architects for the new restaurant and cafe are CASA Design Architects Ltd.

Dorothy confirmed that completion of the restaurant and cafe is likely to be late in the year.
