SIX new deer are expected to arrive at Belleisle this month and will be welcome companions to the animals already there.

The decision was made recently and can be seen as some well deserved good news while the hotel casts 'a long dark shadow' over the rest of the park.

Cllr Bill Grant was delighted with the news despite some knowing some parts of the estate have been subject to more vandalism recently.

He said: "Whilst the hotel casts a long dark shadow over the good work in Belleisle, I am still optimistic for its future though it does get more difficult to believe. "

It is hoped the car park will be resurfaced before the end of the financial year.

Cllr Grant continued: " That said there will be some much needed car park resurfacing before the end of the financial year.

"It was hoped this could have been done last year post water pipe installation. The deer park will see the arrival of a further six mature female deer in early February and will be welcome companions to the “auld deers” already there."

The conservatory has already been closed for a period in order to have the floor tiles on the pathway replaced. The work is expected to be completed in time for the Easter holidays.

Cllr Grant continued: "Sadly elements of the park have been subject to vandalism; particularly the hotel and I would welcome the support of the public by reporting any inappropriate behaviour to the police."

The spate of recent vandalism over the Christmas period was discussed at recent community council meeting.

There is fear that once the conservatory is complete it will be targetting in the same way. Anyone who has noticed any suspicious behaviour can get in touch with the local police station via 101.
