AN eye care professional from Ayr who combines clinical excellence with a dedicated record of service and long standing ties to the community has been named Optometrist of the Year at an awards ceremony held by Black & Lizars, one of Scotland's largest independently-owned optometrists.

Carol Semple, based in the Black & Lizars practice at Dalblair Road, Ayr took the prestigious award in front of an audience of her peers at a ceremony in Crieff Hydro Hotel in Perthshire on Sunday, January 29 . The award was sponsored by Coopervision.

She said: “I have been working with a great team in the Ayr practice, and I am delighted to see our hard work and dedication to clinical excellence being reflected in this award.”

Carol’s duties include standard eye examinations and contact lens work. She also is expert in fitting specialist contact lenses for hospital based patients, ensuring those with more complex needs receive the best vision possible. Many other medical services are also provided, for example diabetic screening as part of NHS Ayrshire and Arran. Carol makes full use of the advanced equipment in the practice including OCT and Optomap.

Carol has also committed to developing the next generation of optometrists as she supervises the work of Ayr’s award winning graduate optometrist Nadine Joyce.
