TWO candidates vying for the Ayr West seats at May’s local election have revealed their plans for the town if they are elected.

Conservative Lee Lyons and Labour member Liz Martin were invited to the Alloway and Doonfoot Community Council to speak about their views on how to better the community.

Lee Lyons said: “I am a foster carer and help families who are at breaking point. I have become involved in work based in Manchester but live in Kirkmichael.

“I go into schools. We talk to them and work with them and make them realise they are a better person than they think.

“I work in Manchester but stay up here. The one thing I won’t say is ‘this my my vision’.

“I want my constituents to tell me what they want.

“If you contact me I will come and speak to you. I will come and help you with your issue.

“I will see it through to the end even if it is not the result you want.”
Liz Martin is already a community councillor for Fort, Seafield and Wallacetown.

She said: “I have been an outreach careers advisor in the Doon Valley area and work at the SRUC campus.

“What resonates with me is the great feeling of them both.

“I support the arts. I have worked at Ayr Academy, Skills Development Scotland to bring the community alive through the use of arts and culture which seems to have fallen by the way side.

“I worked for 12 years in Germany but felt very thankful to have Ayr has my hometown. I came down to Ayr from Lanarkshire in the 80s and had to pinch myself that I was living in such a great place.

“Since coming back from mainland Europe I discovered what had happened with the town.

“It is tough losing power from local democracy which has been taken away by Edinburgh.”

Liz is on the same page as Lee when it comes to having a vision but says she will do all she can to support locals and the town.

The local elections take place on Thursday, May 4 this year.
