HIGH notes were hit at a highly successful Fiddlers Concert organised by Troon Rotary Club.

More than 500 people packed into Troon Concert Hall for the event and both the fiddlers and the World Championship-winning 1st Troon Boys Brigade were given a rapturous reception.

The BB pipes and drums performed two spots as a special addition to the Tourie Band's annual visit. Compère Jim McColl MBE of BBC's Beechgrove Garden has agreed to host once again and mezzo-soprano Colette Ruddy charmed the company.

Though the figures have yet to be finalised it is hoped that over £4000 was raised on the night for local and international charities.

Proceeds from the evening will go this year to the Rotary Foundation which celebrates its Centenary in 2017, and in particular to the End Polio Now Campaign. Amazingly Rotary is close to achieving the target of a Polio-free world with only 34 cases worldwide in 2016. As part of this campaign look out locally in the Spring for 10,000 crocus bulbs near the Irvine/Barassie road planted in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council to recognise the Purple4Polio campaign.

Additionally this year Troon Rotary continue to provide £200 per month funding to groups and individuals in our Community Support Programme as well as Ovarian Cancer Action, South Ayrshire Women’s Aid, Save the Children and the Ayrshire Hospice.
