CHILDREN will be able to enjoy a meal with their family at the refurbished Troon Links Golf Club.

A total of £1.9 million was spent on the renovation of the clubhouse, which has seen the front of the building transformed with steps, new paving and accessible ramps.

The roof has also been replaced with new glazing throughout.

Changes to the inside include an extended café and restaurant, including relaxing lounge areas, modern changing facilities and a fully accessible golf pro shop.

An application was made to the licensing board last week to increase the capacity from 70 to 260 but Building Standards recommended a limit of 164.

Young people will also be allowed access to the clubhouse for the purposes of having a meal or snack as junior golfers and when accompanied by an adult.

They will be allowed to stay until 8pm unless attending a function when they may remain until the end of the party if accompanied by an adult.

Junior golfers are permitted on the premises until 9.30pm, but are not permitted to access the café/function room after 8pm.

Speaking at the licensing board Cllr Peter Convery said: "At last we have seen the transformation of Troon Links. To me the club house is remarkable and has been managed well.

"I think they deserve our congratulations. We have an excellent facility. It may encourage more golfers to come to Troon Links. If you get the chance to go and see it, it is well worth the visit.

"The panoramic view is stunning."

Cllr Mary Kilpatrick concluded: "This has been a long time coming. It is tremendous and I wish everyone all the best with it."
