A PEDESTRIAN had to be taken to Ayr Hospital after he was knocked down at Prestwick Toll, Ayr Road on Friday night.

Just before 8pm, a car struck a man, believed to be in his 40s, on Friday, March 10 as he was crossing the road. Emergency services attended the accident, which resulted in the road being closed off at the traffic lights and diversions put in place.

Eyewitnesses have described observing a black car sitting abandoned on the pavement with a smashed windscreen on Friday night.

There was a takeaway container lying flat on the ground with spilled food as if it had been run over.

Six road police cars were seen to be present and the road has was closed for about two hours. Officers were seen measuring the road and the scene still remains cordoned off.

Local sources have said that from the damage to the car, it seemed to be evident that another car wasn’t hit in the process.

A spokeswoman for police Scotland said: “At 7.55pm on Friday, March, police were called to a report of a man being injured after being struck by a car on Ayr Road in Prestwick.

“Officers attended and the man was taken to Ayr Hospital and was released after treatment.”

Enquiries are continuing into the incident but the Ayr Advertiser Series understands no one has been arrested or charged in connection to this accident.
