POTENTIAL candidates for Ayr West have outlined their manifesto for the May elections.

Siobhan Brown, for the SNP, has been living in Ayrshire since 1999 and plays a large role in the BUY MSH campaign.

She said: “My background is in the legal sector. I have been actively trying to help save Malcolm Sargent House and we have established a local charity.

“So far we have raised £120,000. I have also created a South Ayrshire Baby Bank. I have a 10-month-old but I have accumulated so much but there was no where to donate things locally so I established the Baby Bank.

“Various charities in Ayr, including SeAscape, help us to allocate clothing and equipment to those who need it most. If I am elected one of my priorities will be focusing on education, liaising with schools and education services.

“I want to help the rest of Ayr and encourage people to use the town.”

Andy Donnell is also hoping to become a candidate for the SNP. There are 22 candidates for the political party competing for 14 seats.

He said: “I have been in Ayr for 30 years but I am appalled at the demise of the town centre. I want to bring vitality to the area. We have got a lot to do and I want to play my part in the decision making.

“I will also deal with pot hole issues and dog dirt that affect people on a daily basis.”

Ayr Advertiser:

Chic Brodie will stand as an independent candidate for Ayr West and first moved to Ayr in 1980.

He explained: “I want more powers decentralised from the local government into the council and the community councils who represent this area.

“I would like to see leisure and hotel facilities not too far from here as well as clean up the town.

“I believe shopping habits for people have changed.

“I want to bring more housing into the town particularly for young people as well as cafes and social enterprises.
“It is in turmoil and needs proper interrogation. We need to capitalise our main assets, for example our river and market them internationally.

“I think with the right strategy we can make this a quality place to live again. I am fed up with one party wanting one thing and the other disagreeing with them.

“That needs to change.”
