GIRVAN’S former Methodist Church could be transformed into a recording studio.

Matt Wilson recently informed the Girvan town team that the South Carrick Arts Team were examining the possibility of purchasing the former Methodist Church for using as a recording studio.

They were also looking at the possibility of using the property, which is on the market for £65,000, as a music and sensory therapy space.

The building has been described as being a prominent feature of the town centre and in the perfect location. There has been a lot of work carried out to develop an arts and culture scene for Girvan and South Carrick.

At the beginning of the year an even was held to discuss what would benefit an aspiring artist in South Ayrshire.

South Ayrshire Arts Partnership are also looking to assist where they can. The aim is to make Girvan and the surrounding villages a creative and vibrant place to live.

They want communities to be imaginative and inspired so creative practitioners can maintain an enjoyable and sustainable career.

With this key point in mind, South Ayrshire Arts Partnership (SAAP) previously invited creative practitioners living or working in South Carrick to share their views and ideas on what form and function a South Carrick Rural Arts Network could take that would be of greatest help to them as a rural based creative.

It would seem that a recording studio was a popular idea. There are already five recording studios in South Ayrshire but none in Girvan.

There are two facilities in Ayr. The others are located in Prestwick, Maybole and Newmilns which are harder for music enthusiasts from Girvan and South Carrick to travel to.

FreshAyr are also looking to to develop a recording studio among other facilities in Queens Court. Those who are backing the Girvan project hope that something similar can be created for them.

South Ayrshire Music Service supports the education authority in its duty to ensure that education is directed to the development of the personality, talents and mental and physical abilities of young people to their fullest potential.

The Music Service enhances the curriculum and supports our young people to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors but it is hoped once young people leave school they will still have the ability to continue with their passion.
