PETS at Home in Ayr are celebrating after raising more than £1,000 to help homeless animals.

For four weeks, the team have been working hard to raise money for animal rescues in and around Ayr, as part of an initiative being run by independent charity, Support Adoption For Pets.

The Ayr store was joined by local animal charity Scottish SPCA Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre to help with the fundraising efforts.

Customers were invited to support the campaign by purchasing a ‘Scratch and Match’ card in store, with the chance to win one of 200,000 prizes and in turn donating £1 to the charity.

Pets at Home stores around the country rose to the challenge raising a total of nearly £415,000.

The total raised will now go towards pet rescue and welfare centres across the country.

Pets at Home store manager in Ayr, Blair Agnew, said: “What a fantastic result - we had so much fun raising money and are so grateful to all of our generous customers for taking part and donating much needed funds.

“It’s great to know that this money will go towards helping these charities to keep abandoned pets healthy and happy until they find a permanent home.”

Half of the money raised will be donated to pet rescues in Ayr, where they are working hard to re-home abandoned pets.

The other half will go to the Support Adoption For Pets grant funding programme which allows charities to apply for additional funding to support their work.
