A TROON supermarket has moved to assure the public over a rat problem.

The Troon Times was told that Rentokil Pest Control were investigating and setting traps for the rats at the Morrison’s supermarket on Dukes Road.

However, concerns have been voiced over the café being open to the public when there are vermin in the store.

Our source said: “At the moment, the store is still open and running but the rats have been found in the café and in the ceiling.

“I am just concerned because the café is still open.”

A spokeswoman for Morrison’s, commented: “A change in the weather can sometimes encourage pests into buildings.

“Our pest control contractor is dealing with it.”

Savvas Othon, Technical Director at Rentokil Pest Control, gave the following advice.

He said: “As rats are nocturnal and usually hide from humans it’s hard to identify them in a commercial site.

“Typical signs that you have an unwelcome guest may include: rat droppings, damaged stock and damage to the fabric of premises, nesting material – shredded insulation, cardboard, wood, plastics and a distinctive smell – rats leave an ammonia-like smell, that is particularly strong in enclosed areas.”
