A MAN has been slapped with a hefty fine after behaving in a threatening manner towards police officers.

Luke Mobsy, of Main Road, Ayr, admitted to causing fear or alarm by shouting and swearing at police officer on May 20 at James Street.

The 23-year-old appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal, Jason Bell, explained: “It was around 12:10am and police were on patrol and saw a male banging on a door.

“The accused was approached and he was seen to be under the influence of alcohol.

“The accused told the police officers to “f**k off”.

“He then continued to shout and swear.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Glenn Davis, said: “Mr Mobsy has been entirely co-operative since the start and has only had one conviction in the last few years.

“He was at the door because he had lost his keys and he couldn’t get a replacement because the council offices are shut on the weekends.”

Sheriff Montgomery addressed Mobsy and said: “You have a bad record – you are very complacent and you have a bit of an attitude, don’t you?

“Now you are making me consider jail.”

Mr Davis said: “He apologises for his attitude my Lord - this is the way he always presents himself.”

Sheriff Montgomery issued Mobsy to pay a £500 fine at £20 per fortnight.
