A 3G pitch has been installed at Cambusdoon Sports Club to encourage more teams to practice on the grounds.

The pitch is used for football and various other sports and hosts Alloway Bowling Club, Ayr Cricket Club and Cambusdoon Football Club.

It was originally built in 1997 on the new site of Robertson's Field Alloway, Ayr, but it is hoped the new all weather pitch will attract more groups throughout the weather - including Ayr United.

Ayr Advertiser:

Sam Hornell, of Cambusdoon Sports Club, explained: "This is a 3G pitch which means there is no grass and no mud when it rains. We have created two new football teams as a result.

"We have got Cambusdoon football club for different age groups and it is going really well. There are two sessions a week.

"We have started walking football for older people and have 15 people already signed up. We are attracting non members to the club who want to enjoy some exercise.

"There are about four or five non members who come along but we want to reach out to others and increase our numbers further.

"Everyone who comes along loves it. Some people haven't played football in about 30 years. They gave it up when their legs gave up.

"We have grants provided from Scottish Football Partnership Trust which gave us some funding for the pitch. They came down and visited it recently.

"Because it has been a bad year for weather, we already have teams looking to book the pitch for their games and they should be able to play all year round which is a huge advantage.

"We want to thank all our sponsors and the grants they provided."

Ayr Advertiser:

Ayr United have already booked the pitch to complete their training two nights a week.

Sam continued: "It is great to have Ayr United training in their own town. We are really positive about our own club and want to help it grow by the end of the year 130 football members.

"Over five years this could increase to 250. We want to provide a facility for amateur team and allow them to practice."
