A PLANNING application has been submitted to change the use of the Clydesdale Bank premises in Prestwick into a Costa Coffee.

The building, which is currently vacant, is located on Main Street in the town and the proposed application was submitted to South Ayrshire Council on Tuesday, October 3.

Many social media users took to Facebook expressing their opinions of the building with some saying it would be “ideal”.

One user said: “Regeneration of the Clydesdale Bank to a Costa could be a good thing for Prestwick.

"It’s a great opportunity for the community to embrace a new shop local initiative and Costa will be good for the youth of Prestwick who can meet and socialise with their friends, they tend to respect the environment and feel more grown up and integrate more with the community. Costa will fit it out really nice and it shows they think Prestwick is a town to invest in.”

A spokesperson for Costa Coffee, commented: “We work closely with planning departments for the benefit of their local communities, creating new jobs and providing attractive and popular social meeting places.

"We are currently evaluating opportunities in the Prestwick area, but have no firm plans in place at this stage.”
