CCTV is set to operate at Marr College’s all-weather pitches after the recent vandalism.

At the recent Troon Community Council, it was advised that a camera would be fitted in the area after vandals broke through the Perspex and the netting on the goals.

Vice Chairman, Douglas Graham, said: “We had good news that I can advise that community safety have agreed to locate and deploy a camera within the vicinity of the pitches at Marr College. Signage will be put in so that people are made aware that CCTV is in the area.

“Hopefully this will prevent the youths from going in – we only think that there are a couple of youths doing the damage but there are no names coming forward.

“Also, these pitches haven’t seen cleaned for over two years and my concerns are that if a child falls over and scraps their knees - what is going to happen?”

It was heard at the Troon Community Council that teachers go out their way to clean and pick up rubbish that lay on the pitches at the school.

Chairwoman, Helen Duff, commented: “There are obviously dogs getting in to the pitches, if they are soiling on this grass and if someone falls while they are playing sports, gets an injury, gets an infection – I mean it is really bad.”

Cllr Bob Pollock, responded: “There was an issue that was advised through the summer that the padlock had been broken and that is why dogs are getting in and out – we have been reassured that a padlock has been replaced to stop people getting in.”

Helen Duff, added: “The janitors are there for a certain and it seems to be that the vandalism gets done after they let, so the CCTV will be in operation when the janitor leaves but I think that they will need to review when the janitors and caretakers are there because there is not enough supervision around.”

Douglas Graham called on Troon’s four councillors for the all-weather pitches to be maintained properly.
