A TEENAGER was fined for shouting obscenities at police officers.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted to shouting and swearing at police officers at Troon’s train station in July, where he called them derogatory names.

He appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard that he teenager was at Troon Beach during the hottest day of the year, that saw some 6000 youths flock to the coast.

Depute Fiscal, Andrew Lazzarin, explained: “It was on the extremely hot day where there were around 6000 people in Troon.

“At 5:20pm, there were about 2000-2500 people waiting on the trains. Due to the amount of people, the police set up a queue at the station to make it easier for people to board the trains. The accused walked to the front of the line and was told by the police to get to the back.

“The accused took this poorly. He became aggressive and shouted, “get to f**k, I’m getting on the f**king train” and “f**k off you f**king pr**k” whilst clenching his fists.

“He was taken to the ground, hand cuffed and restrained – the police took him to a nearby police van.”

Speaking on his behalf, a defence solicitor, said: “He is 17 years old and lives in Lancaster and he had come up to Scotland in July to visit his girlfriend.

"When he went to Troon station, the police had set up a queuing system and his girlfriend, who was at the front of the queue, had their tickets. He is extremely embarrassed for his actions – he has no previous convictions.”

Sheriff Montgomery issued a £150 fine.
