FRIENDS of Fullarton in Troon were awarded funding at the recent Troon Locality Decides.

The volunteer group received £5000 after winning the support from the public at the event on Saturday, February 10 at the Troon Concert Hall.

Over recent months, Friends of Fullarton have engaged in a number of clean ups by teaming up with Scottish Wildlife Trust, as well as receiving sapling donations from charity. The funding that was received at Troon Locality Decides, will now help this work continue, by bringing wheelchair accessible picnic benches and a community notice board.

Fiona Kennedy, for FoF, explained: “[The money] will be used to purchase a basket swing, which encourages interactive social play, two wheelchair accessible picnic benches, a community noticeboard and some paint to mark out disabled bay parking places.

“The event as always, was great fun with the opportunity for us to share and discuss our plans for the woodland with the community.

“There was a record turnout of voters and FoF wish to thank everyone for making the time to take part.

“We are continuing to work hard to restore the woodlands to its former glory and have a number of events and works planned for the year.

“Our next community events are a ‘Spring Clean Up’ on March 25 followed by a ‘Spring into Nature Walk’ on April 15. All details can be found on our website where we also now have a donation button for those who wish to contribute financially to our good works.”

Fullarton Fairy Trail was also among the community groups that were given funding, as they received £1000.

This will go towards, adopting a digital strategy to allow people to use a mobile device and follow pathways of the trail.

As 2018 is the Year of Young People, the Fullarton Fairy Trail are also hoping for an application to be developed by local children from Marr College.
