LOCALS joined Friends of Fullarton to begin phase one of fixing the pathway running alongside the burn.

On Sunday, April 19, the community group was joined with staff from Morrisons and local residents at Fullarton Woods to help clear the mud, branches and other debris off the 250 metres of pathway – with top layers of mud removed, it then exposed the underlying gravel.

This path in recent years had been almost impossible to use without wellies.

Crawford Young, of Friends of Fullarton, said: “There was evidence of the saying that many hands make like work is true.

“A large group of colleagues from the Troon branch of Morrisons supermarket came along to Fullarton Woods where they helped complete part of a project that would have taken weeks, if not months, without their help. It was a big, tough, muddy job and we are extremely grateful to everyone for the hard work and effort they put in.

“Over the next few months the Friends of Fullarton will be looking to upgrade the path further, by edging it and laying new gravel on top of the existing material.

"Eventually, the path will be accessible to all users: pedestrians - with and without wellies - cyclists, horse riders, and mobility scooters and wheelchairs.  However, there is still quite a bit of work to be carried out until that can be achieved.”
